About us

We Hand make our cordials using old family recipes and some new ones that we have created ourselves.

We are forever changing our cordial flavours to match the season and fruit availability, so please keep an eye open for any Changes, because as we are not a large company we can introduce new flavours quickly.

Yarty was started by Jayne, with help from husband David in the Yarty Valley, a stunning valley which runs from the Blackdown Hills to Axminster in Devon, hence the company name,we have dropped the Valley as we no longer live there..

Jayne has been making cordials for many years for family and friends, using Old Family Recipes, from Jayne’s Grandmother Mabel who used cordials to cook (this was long before fridges, and a cordial was one of the only ways to preserve the fruit).

Mabel Plascott trained in Mrs A.B.Marshalls cookery school Mortimer Street, London in 1914. in its day it was the cookery school for young Ladies.

Mabel became a freelance cook to Nobility and Royalty in the New Forest, and was called in to organise special occasions and events.

Yarty started by making Scotch and Vegetarian Eggs, which we supplied to local pubs and shops. To comply with food regulations we had to be registered as a food producer with South Somerset Council. On his visit Chris our inspector was offered some of our Cordial, and it was at this point that he said we should forget about the Eggs and make Drinks.

It was at this point we discovered pasteurisation, as the bottles were exploding at night! We have developed a special method of gentle pasteurisation, which enables us to create our cordials without the addition of any artificial preservatives. As the cordials are completely free of colourings, preservatives or flavourings, and contain a large percentage of fresh fruit juice, they are suitable for children.

We are now selling our cordials in selected outlets, and shows throughout the UK, and you can also buy online.

We also supply top end events and the corporate market, especially Film and TV. Yarty has become known in the trade as the covert cordial as it’s not found everywhere and is chosen for its quality and its exclusivity.

The fruit used is sourced as locally as possible, from Hampshire and the Southwest.

Yarty only use the finest fruit and not Concentrates or Inverted Sugar and it’s all hand made, hand bottled and hand labelled; it’s a True Artisan Drink, the only tools used is our 14 year old Magimix, and a funnel. We still leave our fruit for over a week to infuse all the flavours; just as Mabel did.

But please do not forget Yarty cordials were used by Mabel to cook with and are still used today by Top Chef's in Cooking, so give it a go.

And now for a completly different use try them as a cocktail base  WoW

For some inspiration please have a look at our Recipes page.

 Enjoy!

  Cordially Yours
